Professor Irene Messoloras to Release “A Meridian Christmas”
The London-based professional choir returns with a holiday recording under Messoloras’ direction
Professor of Music Irene Messoloras and conductor of Meridian return to Signum Classics with their holiday EP, “A Meridian Christmas.” Recorded at All Hallows Gospel Oak in London, the collection captures the spirit of the holidays with cherished carols and contemporary arrangements. Their first single, “A Great and Mighty Wonder,” is available to listen to on streaming services now.
“I wanted A Meridian Christmas to feel timeless — an elegant weaving of tenderness and celebration," said Messoloras. "It’s music that holds space for stillness as much as for joy, reminding us that beauty often lives in the quiet moments between.”
The EP features five works that highlight the ensemble’s expressive harmonies, including Carolyn Jennings’ “Ding Dong! Merrily on High,” Erling Pedersen’s “A Great and Mighty Wonder” and Paul Manz’s “E’en So, Lord Jesus, Quickly Come.” Additional selections include Ben Parry’s “All Through the Night” and Ola Gjeilo’s arrangement of “The Holly and the Ivy.”
“A Meridian Christmas” is available to stream in its entirety on November 28, just in time for the festivities ahead.
“This release kicks off the holidays,” said Messoloras. “I hope the music brings listeners comfort and peace throughout this special time of year.”
An award-winning conductor, Messoloras serves as director of choral Activities at the UC Irvine Claire Trevor School of the Arts, where she leads the UCI Chamber Singers, UCI Choir and Voces Chamber Ensemble.
